Dr Brown’s Options Anti-Colic Bottle Review

I received a Dr Brown’s Options anti-colic bottle set and Microwave Steam Steriliser in return for this review but all the words and opinions are my own.

I’ve made no secret of my feelings about breastfeeding. After the Child flat out refused to ever take a bottle despite trying to introduce one from 3 weeks I was determined that the Newbie would be different. I still wanted to breastfeed him but I wanted to introduce a bottle from the start so that I had the option to be away from him for longer than two hours, something I couldn’t do until the Child was one. It was definitely the right decision for me and the Newbie will now feed from both (although he stills prefers the boob because, well they’re pretty awesome). Now I’m on my own I’m even more thankful I introduced a bottle from birth as combination feeding has been an absolute godsend when I’ve needed a break even if it is just to the supermarket.

However, it hasn’t all been smooth sailing; within a week of the Newbie being born it was clear he had trouble with trapped wind and was on the verge of developing colic. Four hours solid crying every afternoon is no fun so when Dr Brown’s offered to send me their Dr Brown’s Options anti-colic bottle – the only truly colic preventative bottle on the market – I was delighted to give them a try. Dr Brown's anti-colic bottle With a new vent system, Dr Brown’s Options anti-colic bottle has a unique feeding system that helps alleviate the symptoms of windy colic as well as prevent colic developing if used from birth. And, unlike their original bottles, the new anti-colic bottle can be used with or without the green vent so the bottles so are ideal as bub’s feeding becomes more developed.

As soon as I first put the Dr Brown’s Options anti-colic bottle to the Newbie’s lips I could tell the difference from the bottle we had been using. With the other bottle I could hear the air hissing through the teat but thanks to the internal vent system which routes any air through the vent tube, bypassing the milk, to the end of the bottle there was no such sound.

I’ve now been using Dr Brown’s Options anti-colic bottle for about 5 weeks and the Newbie’s colic has definitely improved. I’d even go as far as to say he doesn’t have colic anymore as we no longer have the 4 – 8pm screamfest that was oh so fun in the really early days, although he is still much fussier at this time than any other. And whilst he does still suffer from bad wind he brings it up a lot quicker and easier than before. I can’t hand on heart say it was solely down to the bottles as we’ve also introduced an over-the-counter medication and I wear the little cherub for most of the afternoon which keeps him calmer but these anti-colic bottles have definitely helped. What’s really great is that the range doesn’t stop at bottles – there are teethers, training cups and soothers as well. This means I don’t have to worry about finding different products as the Newbie gets older as the Options range will truly grow with him.

The Microwave Steam Steriliser is also a great product which is easy and quick to use. It sterilises up to four bottles in the microwave in just a few minutes giving you the peace of mind that your bottles are as clean and as safe as they can be.

At £24 for the bottle Deluxe Starter Kit, The Dr Brown’s Option anti-colic bottle are good value for money, as this set contains four bottles and nine teats that see you from birth to 6 months plus. The steriliser is £15.99 and includes two bottles so is also a bargain in my book.

So if you’re looking for a good quality, anti-colic bottle then I would recommend looking no further than Dr Brown’s Options range.
